Irish Rail just retired their steam-heated Cravens cars a number of months ago.

Headphones [{(-_-)}]Headphones [{(-_-)}]I was the conductor on the first train last year & it was 17 degrees outside.  The guys who put the train together that AM were using torches to thaw out the lines when I got there.  They got everything working & when we pulled into the station, steam was leaking out every where.  It was a beautiful sight.  Just like in those old movies.

So you operate the steam-ejector AC in Illinois in December?  Do you have freezing problems?

If GM "killed the electric car", what am I doing standing next to an EV-1, a half a block from the WSOR tracks?

What would really be interesting is if anyone still uses steam-ejector air-condiitoning, like I believe the Sante Fe did.

I know all revenue passenger trains use head end power(electric) now but I'm wondering if any tourist or excursion operators still have operable steam heated equipment in use.
