Wasn't there a heliport at the 1964 world's fair? On the roof of one of the buildings, but I can't recall which one.

New York Airways - Wikipedia
Used the Pan-Am Manhattan - Kennedy service once.
As others here have often said. It is all about 1st mile - last mile.
rdamonWhen I was at JFK and ordering a UBER in January, I had the option of booking a helicopter to downtown for about $195
I suspect the ride share companies will get involved with these at some point after rollout.

MidlandMike CSSHEGEWISCH New York Airways, which flew helicopters to the major airports from midtown Manhattan and several suburban locations, didn't survive in a similar operation. VTOL aircraft in a similar role seem like a solution in search of a problem. I remember that a prominent heliport was on top of the PanAm (I think now it's the Met Life) building, which was built over Grand Central Terminal.

I took the helicopter from the PanAm Building twice when I lived in NYC. It was a hoot.

I wonder what a trip cost would be?
So I was thinking about this. This appears to be emerging technology and apparently will be fully FAA certified and approved by 2025 or 2026. One company is sponsored by Stallentis and the other by Toyota, I think as part of their EV programs. I wonder what impact this will have on Amtrak (positive, negative or none at all). The philosophy here is VTOL airports that serve large cities or suburbs and fly people around and potentially to the major airports. Would it make sense for Amtrak in marginal ridership areas to colocate a train station next to one of the future VTOL airports if this technology takes off (pun intended). Also wonder if Uber or Lyft will get involved with these? Will this become a feature at Amtrak intermodal stations?
