Here is an article from Olean Times Herald news. Unfortunately it quotes Alstom that it has sent a number of AX-2s to Amtrak. However Alstom neglects to admit that the units were sent to Amtrak for storage but not accepted.

Not aware of the FRA crash standards having been changed in a willy-nilly basis and if the manufacturer doesn't even come up with a computer simulation to demonstrate how their design exceeds the FRA standards - that is not on Amrak.

The artricle "...Report details problems behind launch of new Acelas..." The accompanying photo shows a train yard (Phila.Pa); with a number of new Acella sets; parked. These sets were part of a 2016 order for a$2.45 Billion dollar order for N.E.C. corridor train sets.....

I know that news reporters are not the most informed but a lot of times when I see a news clip or news report on these new trainsets they usually refer to them as nothing more than a reskinned French TGV. Is that true?

US standards for rail passenger vehicles are not the same as the French have for the TGV. Amtrak doesn't make the standards, they just have to comply with them.
