So he boarded a section of the Texas Eagle in Memphis and took it to Little Rock and then down to Texas, on the current Amtrak route to Fort Worth to El Paso, TX.    No idea what he took from El Paso to Los Angeles, CA.

Kind of interesting as until this article I did not know the Texas Eagle back then had a Memphis to Little Rock section.

On the 35th Parallel transcontinental railroad, no less!

One of our regular posters lives close to the area where traffic coming west from Memphis would join the MoPac main stem to Texarkana.  He can tell you much more than I could about how this connection would have worked.

Although Elvis was the rage when I was in high school, I never paid him any attention. I was a real square!
 
According to the 1958 schedule, MP 201, which was the Memphis section of the Texas Eagle, departed Memphis at 8:30 PM with through cars for Fort Worth and Houston.  It arrived in Little Rock at 11:30 PM, where the through sleeper and coach were positioned for a transfer to No. 1.  No. 1 arrived in Little Rock at 12:05 AM, departed at 12:25 AM, and arrived in Fort Worth at 8:50 AM. 
 
No. 201 had two 14 Roomette, 4 Double Bedroom cars; one to Fort Worth and the other to Houston.  It also had reclining seat coaches to Little Rock and Fort Worth.
 
No. 201 departed Little Rock at 12:10 AM and arrived in Texarkana at 2:50 AM, where it terminated, or it became No. 221, which departed Texarkana at 3:10 AM and arrived in Longview at 4:55 AM.
 
The 1958 schedule was essentially the same as the 1952 schedule with some slight changes in time and equipment.
