LA has a few ski areas in the 10,000' mountains that border the east side of the LA Basin.

I do suspect that a lot of those skis and sleds came with the furniture when those folks moved from the east to LA.

"See.  I was RIGHT not to throw grandpa's old sled away!"

Just speaking from experience, there.

I was living in LA at the time of the snowfall, and I just don't remember it.  I DO remember that some rich folks spread snow all over their front yards for the Christmas holiday and let us not-rich people drive through on the street.  It was quite impressive.  Hooray, rich people!

That snowfall video was interesting. Funny how they had skis and sleds in L.A.

LA is not that far from 'Winter Playgrounds' - even in 1949.  Many Angelenos partake in Winter sports.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

This disproves that it never snows - Jan. 4. 1949 at Pasadena

I can't see the picture from the link but I know what you mean.

In a past issue of (I think) "Classic Trains" there was a photo of a Pacific Electric trolley running in a snowy Los Angeles. So snow in the L.A. area's been known to happen.

Apparently the concourse to the various tracks is flooding that disproves that  " It never rains in southern California "  But it pours!!

It's too bad they don't have a way to store all this fresh water to be used next summer and fall.

Heard they were calling it a "temporary pop-up water feature"

... that disproves that  "It never rains in southern California"

The hardest I ever saw it rain continuously was on the 405 north into LA in the mid-Nineties.  Wipers couldn't clear it; we had to pull over and stop for several minutes.

This is the result of a 'bomb cyclone' in the north Pacific; there are or were several sequential heavy rain systems that will be passing over that area in the next few days.  The weather-radar projected plot is a bit scary...

That was actually disproven many years ago.  The 55' 4-lane wide street in front of my house (at the time) was also a storm drain.  And the curbs were built extra high for the purpose.
