NYCity - Pittsfield Weekend Service starts 8 July

 Amtrak’s Berkshire Flyer begins July 8, seasonal pilot service Pittsfield - New York City
in conjunction with MassDOT and NYSDOT.
It  will operate on weekends through the summer months with a similar schedule next year,
including a Friday afternoon departure from New York City’s Penn   at  5:16 PM to Pittsfield
via Albany-Rensselaer, N.Y. A return trip will be provided on Sunday afternoons.3:00 PM   
Four-hour running time.

I wonder if the line through Canaan, CT and Great Barrington to Pittsfield will ever be revived.

Is not the track in use by a short line for freight service?

yes, the Housatonic Railroad operates the line north of Danbury. I recall being in the area in the late 1960s and the B & M operated the line after the New Haven ended all service in 1971.
