While I think that might be a good idea, they should propose connecting to Glacier National Park as well cross border.   Looks like it is on the skids already due to cost and funding commitments.

It was reported last month that Alberta commissioned an economic study on the proposal.  It might also be hydrogen powered.

sounds like a great idea, hopefully they can work it out someday. Friends and I rode the CP Canadian years ago from Winnepeg where we flew from home.  Spent a few days in Banff/Lake Louise area and continued on to Vancouver, we got to go thru the Spiral Tunnels.   Awesome area to visit.  on our return trip we took CN Super Continental with stop off for a few days at Jasper Park, where we  stayed in their Lodge.  Have never rode VIA but the CP route was more scenic.

This has about as much chance of happening as a Hyperloop between Edmonton and Calgary (yes that's a real proposal, look it up).  

Rocky Mountaineer doesn't even run all the way to Calgary anymore.
