Still in training.
If anyone knows how to delete a post entirely, please let me know.
I posted in the wrong forum, realized it, than posted it in the General forum.
So this thread in this forum is now just debris. Or is it a "legacy" item?
I guess if you would say something really not nice, hurt a lot of feelings and generally stir up a hornet's nest this might be accomplished. People who post on the wrong forum really get under my skin and I am so angry I could almost explode; in fact, I think that I will!
I'm surprised 'moderator' Otte has not stepped in already.
As I understand it, once you post you can only delete the content, not the whole entry. You can PM a moderator and ask that it be removed, but it seems the PM function hasn't been working lately.

I just erase the content and type "deleted" and let it go at that.
And PM hasn't worked for weeks. "Events" hasn't worked for a year.
Will this cause this to be deleted or locked- "If you don't all think the way I do, you are all a bunch of egg-sucking, sheep stealing, one eyed sons of stuffed monkeys!" How's that?

Otte does better.
Hey, just for fun, let's see how long we can keep this thread going. We might even rival NDG's "Stringlining" thread or even K. P. Harrier's "Sunset Two-tracking" thread.
Dihydrogen monoxide is a killer.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Backshop BaltACD Dihydrogen monoxide is a killer. Only if you ingest it. Just say no! Of course, if you don't ingest any, that'll kill ya, too.

The naming of compounds has long bugged me. Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide make sense if you assume that no prefix means one. Sodium chloride: one of each. But then there's sodium carbonate which has two sodium atoms-- no prefix. So let's say that we don't need the prefix if it is the normal or stable form. Then carbon dioxide should be carbon oxide since carbon monoxide will eventually convert to carbon dioxide. Also. we have hydrogen peroxide: two hydrogen and two oxygen atoms. Why not dioxide? I'm guessing that the "per-" might mean "hyper" (too many), but then why isn't carbon monoxide called carbon pooxide ("hypo": too few)?

Remember the rule of exceptions. Exceptions are the rule.
Yeesh.
The 'mono' in monoxide means 'one'. We put the 'di' in there to show the two hydrogens to one oxygen. We don't bother with sodium carbonate but we could as easily put disodium carbonate as we can use trisodium phosphate... and when two different ions are used we could easily say sodium hydrogen carbonate.
Uranium hexafluoride, phosphorus pentoxide, osmium tetroxide or titanium tetrachloride, aluminum trichloride, ammonium BIfluoride... oh yes, there is a carbon suboxide, but it's C3O2. And N2O of course... remember what that's named?
Diethyl ether, trimethylamine, tetrasodium ethylene diamine tetraacetate.

Naming really get wild when you step into the world of organic chemistry product and compound names.

"Per-" means through, or above; in chemistry it can mean that all available bonds have been made for a particular element (as in potassium permanganate).
Unfortunately 'peroxide' has the accepted meaning of an internal structure with a singlet bond between two oxygens.
Hydrogen peroxide comes apart as H20 and a singlet oxygen, but it cannot be made by adding oxygen to water... the internal structure is more akin to two hydroxyl radicals sharing a single bond with a little steric rotation. The great genius of the anthraquinone process (much of which uses resonance to advantage) is that the organic molecule is easily loaded with hydrogen in a way that reacts them with 'atmospheric' diatomic oxygen (in nonpolar solution, like ether) without need for a catalyst.
All right, we seem to have slowed down. Since I suggested that we keep this thread going to rival NDG's "Stringlining" thread, I noticed that NDG has added some more posts to his thread. I don't know if he saw us in his rear-view mirror catching up and decided to take up the challenge, but we need to pick up the pace. We don't even have one page yet.
By the way, L.O., when typing the title to this thread, why did you decide to type ' instead of just using the apostrophy?
(I know somebody will feel the need to explain it to me.)
The forum software does funny things like that sometimes.
As Dude said, it's a software anomaly. All I typed was an apostrophe.
All you have to do is retitle the thread with words that don't contain characters like apostrophes or ampersands.
At one point this problem developed as the Bangalore IT team dicked with the Yahoo Groups code. Multiple recursion in the client parsing would solve it quite simply and flexibly, but it was beyond them then, and almost certainly beyond Kalmbach IT now... not that they can't, but that no one is going to pay them to.
I suggest "We need to start policing ourselves better"

He-he-he, BTDT.
Someday someone will do a book and tabulate all the costs of the "lets outsource to India" movement and find they spent 2-3 times as much training Indians then they would have if they just gave IT workers in the United States the pay they deserved. I hate to say it but I think that lesson is slowly sinking in to Corporate America on outsourcing in general. I think a lot of Executives today regret the decisions made years ago.

I enthusiastically concur.
Thanks to input from OM, I renamed the thread.
I didn't realize the apostrophe caused it. I thought the anomaly was completely random.
L. O., my comment in parentheses was my attempt to indicate that I was not serious in my questioning you. My very first entry when joining the forum was turned into a gobbledygook of characters like that.
Here's another thought: If you still want to have this thread removed rather than competing with NDG as I suggested above, try changing the title to something to get the moderator's attention. Maybe something inspired by Reagan like "MR. OTTE, TEAR DOWN THIS THREAD!"
By the way, I was going to try to PM you earlier about this, but PM wasn't working. Then I realized that I hadn't deleted our last conversation from some time ago, so I tried replying to it, and it seemed to take it OK. Of course, if you had deleted it at your end, it may not show up. You might want to check it--not that it contains any useful information, but just out of curiosity.
The messaging function is not working for me today. I sent/got a couple of messages within the last couple of weeks, but today it does not work. ??
Therefore, Paul, don't bother to look for a note from me.
What really needed to be outsourced were the Executives for their faulty thought processes.
