Amtrak has Returned to Vermont!
Posted by Harrison on Monday, August 2, 2021 8:14 AM

After well over a year of no service due to COVID, Amtrak's Vermonter and Ethan Allen Express returned on July 19th. I caught the second southbound Vermonter on July 20th in White River Junction, VT. This clip is part of my recent trip to Waterville, Maine, which will release in the near future.

Nice job Harrison!  It's good to see that classic old station at White River Junction is still there!  A lot of railroad history there.

Can you tell us anything about that steam locomotive on display?  That was a surprise!

Vermonter Train 56 will terminate in New Haven (NHV) due to severe weather in the area causing a washout. We are in the process of securing alternate transportation for passengers traveling between NHV and St. Albans (SAB).

We were staying in Waterville... Not a place known for its lobster Laugh. The rail action was decent though, as we caught and chased a "mainline" train, two paper mill locals, and countless switching jobs.

We had a lot of rain here in NY on Sunday, I wonder if that was what caused the washout. Either way, the Vermont railfans will enjoy seeing a daylight run of the NECR freights...

So when are they returning to Montreal?

IMO--- The consideration of opening up Montreal will not even be considerd until the border is open both ways and will stay open.  Then all the C-19 delays in planning will have to be brought out of the dusty files.

So when are they returning to Montreal?

The Empire State Passenger Rail whatever-it-is-called is "advocating" for the return of the Adirondack by October 1st. I personally think it will be back before Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure exactly when.
