Yes Amtrak has plans to replace them starting in 2025-2026. The new seat coverings in the Superliner I's look nice (See Trains Newswire). The refurbishment is just to hold them over until replacement. Amtrak mentions it is doing research now on new arrangement for CAFE and DINING car to take advantage of a new type of food service..........not sure what that means yet. Time will tell. They also kind of hinted at combining the replacement Superliner Lounge and Dining Car into one car vs two.
Using viewliner sleepers on Western Long Distance trains to free up Superliner Sleeper space. Using viewliner dorm crew car on Eastern Long Distance to free up sleeper space (the car they pictured was 1/3 baggage with one baggage sliding door and the rest was crew sleeper, allegedly they have 10 on order)
News wire has a statement that LOSSAN returned 28 leased cars to Amtrak early 2020. Where are those cars now? They could certainy be used to fill out some western routes if all leased were Superliners >? Will Amtrak again lease the cars to LOSSAN ?
Maybe they could all be assigned to one LD route ? the Sunset or Chief might be a certain route as those are the maintenance experience LAX already has ?

These were used to suppliment the Pacific Surfliner trains for Amtrak California. My guess is they will be returned to Chicago. They are probably going to use the Siemens equipment on the San Joaquins and the extra equipment that frees up will be used to cover the Surfliner trains. I think they were all Superliner Coaches. I believe they only leased nine of the Superliners......not a lot.
