The Eagle resumed daily service on May 24th.  Today - May 27th - No. 21 had four cars, i.e., a sleeper, diner/lounge, and two coaches.  Prior to resumption of daily service it had two sleepers, a diner/lounge, and two coaches.

Shiner is the best beer! Official beer of A&M!

I have degrees from SMU.  I like Shiner inspite of Texas A&M's stamp of approval.

No. 21 had two locomotives and ten cars today – May 22nd.  Amtrak is repositioning the equipment for the resumption of daily service on Monday, May 24th.  One locomotive and five cars will make up No. 22 tomorrow, Sunday, May 23rd, and the other set will be No. 22 on Monday, May 24th.  The train did not have any baggage or Sightseer lounge cars.

Oh great.  Just great!

I listened to Steve Earle's "Texas Eagle" and now  I've got an insatiable urge to buy a six-pack of Shiner "Bock" beer!  Listening to country or bluegrass'll do that to to ya!

Good thing Shiner's good beer!  Beer

Nice bluegrass rendition. Mr. Earle is a bit too nasal in his singing but that's a stylistic touch.  Nice, simple banjo work.

Why don't they let the #22 go in peace and call three taxi vans for the limited sundowners?

I mean as far as some are still fit to travel .. 0S5A0R0A

That would require some out-of-the box thinking.  Not something Amtrak is noted for!

>>That's the best news I've heard today!<<

You must be really badly off, so many bad news all the time?

Well, if that's the kind of "bedlam" you listen to instead of music, I don't wonder.

BaldACDC

just a friendly mild suggestion 'cause I'm worried: could it have something to do with your innumerable head bangers you suffer incessantly in this forum?

I mean if .. no, unthinkable.

Hope you get well soon, best wishes!

Huuhuuh! I thought so! You have the white head eagle as your symbol bird but you have no idea of how it flys!

Oh, the way this rattles and shakes and wobbles and he mumbles along and swallows half the words it's more like a trip on the back of a pickup over a bumpy country rocky road than the flight of an eagle! The hobo shrubs the guitar as if he could do without strings in case he has to. And the bewitched listeners wouldn't even notice. He should sing a railroad "song" of a road that had the rails been taken off by the commissioner and still has their Silver Streamer go on just by the sleepers.

.. but if you like it, ok.

Only: please, don't call it music.

Sara

Music is in the ear of the musician and the listener that appreciates it.

In many cases, what you percieve as music, I would not.  Music is personal to each individual.  You like what you like and I'll like what I like - it is all music whether as individuals we like it or not.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Today’s passengers on No. 22, the northbound Texas Eagle, probably are singing the blues.  If they are in a mood for any singing?

No. 22 was scheduled to depart San Antonio for Chicago at 7:00 am.  Due to the late arrival of the through cars (sleeper and coach) off of the Sunset Limited, it did not leave San Antonio until 1:48 pm.  It is running 6 hours 48 minutes late.

This is not the first time a late running Sunset Limited has delayed the departure of No. 22.  Waiting hours for the through cars does not go down well for the Eagles’ San Antonio passengers, which can be added to the list of angry passengers on No. 22 (422).

I would like to know the average load factor on the through cars.  Is it really worth ticking off the folks that booked on No. 22 from SAS and points north by holding its departure for nearly seven hours?

This song isn't about art.

https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/festivals/article_bf98ad4b-e8fa-5ace-ac4e-ea763f9a6589.html

There's a long, long tradition of protest singing in the United States, and Texas Eagle is in that tradition.  Consider the 'piggyback freighters' and 'them Amtrak things' and what a shame the train he remembers was sold south.

I would argue this is not a railfan's kind of railroad song...

Railfans would appreciate the MoPac eagle combined with the turbocharger buzz-saw as a metaphor for how the MoPac trains might have 'flown'... but as with many great things brought down by small, mere lack of patronage killed them off.
