SPV-2000's in Baden NC
Posted by matthewsaggie on Monday, February 22, 2021 5:57 PM

I was in Baden NC over the weekend and came across at least 5 Budd SPV-2000 cars (ex-Conn DOT?) at the old Alcoa Aluminum plant along with a VRE diesel (GP40?). Could not get a close location for a photo.  There are a few YouTube videos from about a year ago showing these cars being hauled south through Acca Yard-Richmond, but nothing since then.  Anyone know why they are there and their future?

From the railroad fan.com website; page on Atlantic Railway (dated 2022):

VRE equipment is owned by Atlantic Railways (prev. Foxville & Northern) who owns the old Badin Branch originally built by ALCOA to serve the former smelter there. They lease the equipment out, and it is currently in use by the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer as a tourist train.
