Maine to Miami on Amtrak and Brightline - Trip Report
Posted by Memma on Saturday, September 12, 2020 5:42 AM

Hi All

I just got done publishing an article about a trip I took from Brunswick, ME to Miami on the Downeaster, an Acela, the Silver Meteor and Brightline. Unfortunately there is no travel from here still (we're only allowed to go 5km from home, all international borders closed etc.) so it's a report on a trip from pre-COVID, but maybe of interest.

Exploring the east coast - Maine to Miami by train

I hope everyone is staying safe and well!

Thanks, well-worth reading.

But the real blow to RR passenger service was the removal of Railway Post Offices and use of trucks and air instead of rail.

But the real blow to RR passenger service was the removal of Railway Post Offices and use of trucks and air instead of rail.

Wide spread ownership of autos and better highways were the real blow to passenger trains.  Autos are more effective for short to intermediate trips, especially for a family, and the airplane, especially jets, for business travel over most distances.

And the real blow to the U.S. Postal Service has been the internet.  Snail mail, especially first class, is sinking faster than the Titanic.

I rode Brightline in March from Miami to West Plam Beach and back.  It is a good service.  It is in this type of corridor that passenger trains make sense.
