More CZ problems.

#6 (6) left PROVO 5:30 AM (:55 late) but didn't get to HELPER until 7:37 PM (13:00 late) which we know was due to the bolder on the tracks. Then  #6 (6) left Ft. Morgan 10:51 AM (14:25 late) but didn't get to McCook, NE until 11:24 AM (11:35 late) Shows arriving at Holdrege @ 3:29 PM (14:35 late)and after that all times are "Estimated to depart 14 hours 31 minutes late"

Any body know why?

#6 (7) left Denver 9:33 PM (2:23 Late) and left Ft. Morgan 11:47 PM (3:22 late) but didn't get to McCook, NE until 11:24 AM (11:35 late)

Any body know why?

This guy was on a tight schedule, so he chose as his mode of transport an Amtrak long-distance train?

Many people become 'on a tight schedule' when they come to think they can get money back for delay.  I think of it as one of the hallmarks of the Evil Inclination.

This guy was on a tight schedule, so he chose as his mode of transport an Amtrak long-distance train? Confused

UP had rocks on its track, and this guy had them in his head.

Well, I have been late when coming west; the worst was when we arrived in Salt Lake City 12 hours late after being held in western Nebraska because of high winds. Not so bad was when we were held in Denver because of a forest fire in mid-Utah and at last, we were detoured across Nebraska, arriving here about six hours late.

I am glad I was never so late when going east because I usually had a connection in Chicago and in Washington.

There is a report in the Newswire section of the this site; you have to scroll down to find it in the third section.

I saw on the noon news a report that the train had been stopped for twenty hours. Was it the train that left Chicago Friday? It has been only about fourteen hours since the train that left Chicago Saturday was due here.

AMTRAK #5 & #6 blocked by bolders on track.

From KUTV

(UPDATE: Sunday at 9:30 p.m.) – The train holding the 57 passengers – guests combined from two trains – is moving and just passed Helper, UT, according to Steve Edwards who says he is on the train. He added the crews were able to remove the rock, fix the problem, and offer everyone a complimentary meal. He criticized Amtrak when speaking to 2News on Sunday night:

This doesn’t erase the fact that we had scheduled to keep. This isn’t our problem, this is Amtrak’s problem, they made it our problem. We want our money back.

Editor's note: This is from a person who claims to be a passenger on the train that has spoken directly with 2News via phonecall. Amtrak has not confirmed or denied if this man's perspective on the event is valid, nor does he represent the feelings expressed by the other guests.

(UPDATE: Sunday at 6:30 p.m.) – Train 5 passengers are now on Train 6 but are experienced more delays caused by another boulder blocking the tracks, Amtrak stated.

Make that boulder pay.  I am sure it has a web site set up for such customer complaints. [/sarcasm]

Force Majure!

Right on! Or did the last UP train by the point reach out and loosen the boulder so it would fall in front of the Amtrak train (Boulder! stop that next trespassing train!) (sarc off)

I would say that the general public has little, if any, understanding of railroad operation.

I saw a report on this, on another station yesterday evening. What I saw gave no indication as to where or what the problem was except that the train was not moving. Amtrak's website gave no indication that there was a time-keeping problem. This morning, the website has no information available.

Why should Amtrak be critcized? Did some Amtrak employee drop the boulder on the track? I should direct my question to the man who blamed Amtrak.
