The very heavy passenger loads have not seemed to delay most Amtrak trains this first 3 days of heavy traffic. Station stops have for the most part have not shown departure delays! Are conductors doing their job ? There have been the usual vehicle on the track delays ( + collisions ), freight train interferrence, and a very few weather delays. All in all good handling by the freight RRs. There is one glaring exception and that is NS south of ATL for the Crescent.
# 19 has departed CLT and ATL within 10 minutes of time but almost 2 hours late into New Orleans.
Then the other item of delays this Thanksgiving is mechanical delays. Amtrak no longer lists if car problems or loco problems but reading between lines the P-42s are still having a lot of delays but Michigan trains which are mostly (?) Siemens locos are all taking mechanical delays. Then we have ACS-64s failures on the NEC. Reports unconfirmed state many ACS-64s are coming up on 5 year overhauls with many sidelined ?
