We are down to 50-75 Private Car Owners and in  just a few more years they will own outright the oldest passenger cars running on Amtrak, if they do not have that title already.   Understood that the New River Train has an Economic impact but at some point West Virginia is going to have to either buy newer excursion equipment or just face the loss of the train.     Amtraks primary mission is to carry passengers not sponsor excursion trains.

Private railway car owners are fighting a losing battle here.   I am pretty confident few if any of their cars are rated for over 100 mph running......regardless of their past history.   I see several corridors comming online with train speeds above that in the next 10 years which will further restrict the operation of a private car.    So I can kind of see why Amtrak is trying to nudge them out now.
