In addition to the damage, the platform entrance to the NJT escalator for track 7/8 was flooded and will be reopened as soon as possible. Customers may use all other exits and entrances for NJT, Amtrak and LIRR to access tracks 7 and 8.

I suppose no one has noticed yet that none of this involves the railroad.  It's all architectural-drainage related.  (Otherwise how could you flood one escalator while 'all other entrances and exits' to both adjacent tracks remain open, or indeed how a high-platform escalator could be flooded while the tracks several feet lower remain in a condition where 'customers' need to 'access' them...)

I won't propose to think for NJT as I can't replicate their organizational thinking so much of the time, but I seriously doubt trains would be cancelled because part of the concourse is down or there is slippery standing water or runoff into one escalator mechanism from some of the concourse roof-leak water running down.

NY Penn Station got flooded by large amount of rainfal.  NJT 7th ave entrance closed indefinitely.  Esculator to track 7 & 8 out of service that will affect Amtrak service until fixed ? /? ?   Will this be another excuse for NJT to cancel more trains /

During today's flash flooding in NYC, area in & around Penn Station New York received an influx of water. As a result, NJT 7th Ave Concourse received substantial damage to the ceiling and entrance to the concourse. Until further notice, the area is closed, as crews work to repair the damaged areas.

In addition to the damage, the platform entrance to the NJT escalator for track 7/8 was flooded and will be reopened as soon as possible. Customers may use all other exits and entrances for NJT, Amtrak and LIRR to access tracks 7 and 8.
