On Wednesday I rode the Pacific Surfliner from San Diego to LAX and back. On Thursday I rode it from San Diego to Oceanside and back. I booked business class.
Train #s 769 and 580 had two business class cars. On these trains the second business class car is the one that is finished on the outside in an Amtrak scheme and, if I remember correctly, was the quiet car. I did not look inside the car; I don't know whether they changed the seats, etc.
The Surfliners that I rode in February had only one business class car. The car attendant told me that most of the Surfliners now have two business class cars, which presumably means more people are willing to pay the extra fare.
My fare included a snack pack and a single serving of wine. For me business class is worth the extra money, but I don’t book it for the snacks and wine. Except for the cell phone shouters, the atmosphere is a more conducive for reading.
