Bonus video, MKT Texas Special near the end.......

Such a different time. Head end cars, a rpo, a single coach and a waving train crew.
At 0:50 to 1:00 in the second video some PA's can be seen in the weeds outside what appears to be a large shop building.

The videos illuminate just how financially precarious the railroads were in the 1960's. The smaller the carrier, the more precarious it's continuing existance.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
BaltACD Despite nearing the end, the Texas special, the cars appear in good shape and train still offered diner service. Better than amtrak plans for the lake shore and capital service. charlie hebdo CMStPnP I like these old color video clips of passenger trains......long ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgWSyRR8P50 Bonus video, MKT Texas Special near the end....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQuYIxvMmM4 Thanks! I grew up near the Twin Cities mainline and my friend had the same mainline going through his backyard with a single target CTC signal we could climb on (heh-heh).
Anyways, the Milwaukee Road crews were very friendly until about 1977 when they started to turn decidedly less friendly and I suspect it was the strains of bankruptcy that soured their mood. After 1977 they became far less social and kept to themselves more.
Also, first and last time I encountered the Milwaukee Road Railroad Police was 1978........that guy was really nasty and had an attitude. Was just sitting on the very lower part of a Milwaukee Road embankment a good 60 feet from the tracks with my bike and the guy accuses me of trasspassing. Pulese, even if it was their property I was alongside a public road.
