Another derailment at CHI US mainly effecting the METRA tracks so METRA is having to use some Amtrak platforms delaying all trains from the south. Understand the switches that this derailment happened at were worked on in the near past ?
Obvious question is the MOW work on the station's tracks sustandard ? If so will there be a large rebuilding of the approach tracks such as is occurring at NYPS ?

CUS trackage went through a major rebuilding several years ago and even now some of the puzzle switches on the approach trackage are being replaced. Derailments at Chicago Union Station are relatively rare as a result.

Amtrak customers should plan for delays of 10 to 20 minutes for the balance of the day for arrivals and departures because of temporarily reduced capacity in the station's South Concourse (even-numbered tracks). Amtrak and Metra commuter rail customers should also check information displays and listen closely to boarding announcements. Some trains could be arriving and departing from tracks that differ from normal.
Amtrak and Metra operations in the station's North Concourse (odd-numbered tracks) are largely unaffected.
Metra and Amtrak are investigating an incident on Tuesday night that resulted in some temporary track closures. More commuter service information is on the MetraRail.com website.
