Interesting write-up Trains did this month on the Heartland Flyer. I would agree with their conclusion that the coalition seems to be leaning towards extending the Heartland Flyer vs starting another whole new train. Now the next area I find of interest is will the train terminate in Newton, KS or Kansas City, KS. Personally, I think it should be a Kansas City, KS termination apart from the Southwest Chief.
I don't think the Casino money will ever pan out. It never did for the extension of the Crescent to Dallas and I think the Casinos look at this not necessarily as a community service but as adding to their customer base and not a lot of folks would take the train over driving to the Casino and most Casino's come to that conclusion eventually.......that it is a waste of their money to sponsor passenger train service.
So we'll see if Kansas funding in addition to OK and TX can tip the scales to get the train extended to Newton or KC,KS. I am kind of doubtful here as well but I never thought a grass roots organization would get the Ft Worth to OKC train going.......but they did. So who knows if Kansas will jump on the band wagon.
