Now, I remember having this conversation earlier on this board with someone. Looks like Capital Metro is reopening the line which still will not connect with a direct Houston line but moves it closer to such a connection (see study below). WATCO according to trains will institute an aggregate train to haul mostly rocks from a large quarry elsewhere on the system (which was merged into the Houston and Texas Central around the 1900's.........then absorbed by T&NO in the 1930's).
Anyhow thought I would repost the link to the former Austin to Houston intercity rail passenger service feasibility study. Perhaps an Austin to Houston Texas Eagle spinoff might be in our future at some point if the Dallas to Houston HSR falls apart.
