Makes sense. I've seen PV's on the Surfliners before and they were usually trailing the cab car. Having the locomotive between the train and the PV did seem to be a good way to maintain privacy...

The private car has no pass through lines for locomotive control in a push-pull consist. It had to go in a spot that doesn't break the circuit between the cab car and locomotive. That spot has to be behind the locomotive.

I was about to do a bit of shopping yesterday eveing in "downtown Cardiff" and heard the horn from anapproaching train. It was a northbound Surflner running cab car first, but what caught my eye was that a car lettered "Pullman" in UP colors was trailing the locomotive. Don't remember seeing any trains made up like that before.
