This car was built for the stillborn Golden Rocket, later renamed the Golden State. In 1957 it along with Golden Vista and Golden Divan were squared off, became full lounges, and were put next to the diner, losing the two drawing rooms and double bedroom. The car was one of a kind in that it had big windows while the other two observation cars had normal sized windows.
Here it is at the Chicago World Fair in 1947,

Here it is in Joliet in 1967/1968 on what might be train number 3#, The "Peorian". The car is now a full lounge and looks a bit missplaced because the higher windows are still there.

I'm aware that 3 days out of 5, an observation car was used and on the latter 3 days out of 5, a finished blunt ended sleeper carried the markers.
Did any of you ever get a chance to ride the "Golden State" in the 50's/60's when it was still running? Any of you sit ever visit the inside of the three observation cars or the lounge car behind the diner? What was the Golden State like after the observation cars were squared off? Was the train still fast, any delays, bad track, slow orders? Was the food onboard the diner good? A guy I know said in the 50's it was still good.
