I was booked on 14 for May 13. It was supposed to be a trip to visit Mom for Mother's Day and her brithday (15th). It was supposed to be a surprise, but it started unraveling last week. First, she was going out of town due to some unexpected event. I was up to taking the trip anyway, after all, a trip in a sleeper is worth it. Then, this happened. So, I canceled my ticket, and my motel down the street from Mom's. But I'm stuck for the airfare return trip. Of all the times to give up $120 to United!!!!

Anyway, Amtrak gave me the choice of a voucher for the full fare or a refund less a fee. I took the voucher. The motel is doing a full refund. I guess I'll reschudle later, and still make it a surprise.

Judging by UP's statement, I would say 10 days to two weeks before the "Coast Starlight" is reinstated.  This would allow UP's backlog to clear up in order to avoid delays when the "Coast Starlight" starts operating.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I think that they cancelled everyone's reservations through the 11th, so I wouldn't be surprised if service began again on Friday.

When I rode CS a few years ago, we got on train at Portland to Eugene, then onto a bus to Klamath Falls, due to track work. It was not something that just jumped up, we knew about it. But we did get a box lunch after boarding at Portland and the first class passengers were put in one bus and coach in another when we reached Eugene.  That was Dad's first name and he'd always wanted to visit there, so I did get to see some of the town as the bus drove us onto a highway.  When we reached KF at 10 pm, diner was open for first class, so we did get a nice meal and even a free glass of wine since we'd missed the wine and cheese party. So it all worked out OK, but when something unexpected pops up like this, causes more commotion.

Were the buses different in amenities or footroom?  Were there more services provided on the first-class one?

Looks like full service was restored yesterday! That's two days earlier than their estimate at the beginning of the disruption!
