Monster delays in PNW
Posted by blue streak 1 on Saturday, December 10, 2016 9:47 AM

The ice storm in the PNW just about shut down BNSF and Amtrak.  An example train 508 arrived Seattle 10+ hours late yesterday morning.  In defense of BNSF can understand why a once in 10 year event does not call for switch heaters that could be installed else where.

Maybe straight lining the route as Amtrak does on the NEC when these conditions exist there might be studied but we do not know if some BNSF trains stalled on the slipery rails.

That would seem to only work on double/multi track lines.
