OK  its not the usual one in Illinois.  On SAT  December 10th TRE shut down for bridge work.  Suspect Eagle both ways will detour over UP between Dallas and Ft. Worth.  Not exactly rare mileage yet.

Well I hope it is back on the same old route by Christmas, though I admit I would love to bypass all the stations in Illinois if it means a faster trip.Big Smile

Sunnyland
A terrible storm hit about an hour outside of Chicago and caused us to be too late for connecting train to Champaign.

Too bad it could not have stopped in Tuscola, as it is only about 23 miles south of Champaign.

I rode Amtrak reroute a few years ago with local railfan group and we went up eastern IL through Tuscola and Pana as mentioned above. Did see Amish buggies at crossings which was cool to see.We did pass the White Sox baseball park, which I had never seen before either.

A terrible storm hit about an hour outside of Chicago and caused us to be too late for connecting train to Champaign. Our leader was on his phone and made sure we had  bus waiting for group at CUS. There were many buses lined up outside the station, noticed them as someone took us to our bus.  People were being put up overnight at hotels if they missed their long distance trains.

It was a memorable day but all worked out OK and glad I went.

What is kind of fun is checking on the Amtrak train tracker at

 http://asm.transitdocs.com/

when 21 or 22 is on the detour and seeing the train marker in a space that is not on the Amtrak Map. It's GPS shows where it is (typically on UP's ex C&EI line down the East side of Illinois crossing the CN (ex IC) at Tuscola, to Pana and thence the former C&EI/NYC line to St Louis. Today (9-29 at 1:45PM) #22 is 31 minutes late at Joliet on its regular route.

JPS1

Due to periodic upgrading of its normal route between St. Louis and Chicago, the Eagle has been running over a temporary route between the two cities, thereby bypassing many of its regular station stops between them.

What route is the Eagle following when its regular route is closed for track work?

Usually they use the C&EI/MP/UP route , not sure what they are doing this time.

I recall UP is sending it down the ex-C&IE between CHI-STL.
