I had fun looking at this S.P. ticket from February 1971. My poor mom had to drag three kids to her mother's house in Santa Barbara!

Bad luck for poor Mom was good luck for you kids. Life balances itself out that way. I'll bet there have been subsequent episodes in which your own kids have benefited from your temporary inconvenience!

Somewhere I have the El Capitan tickets from a Flagstaff to Pomona trip our parents took us on just before Amtrak.

I still have, somewhere, the stub of an eleven coupon roundtrip Birmingham-San Francisco ticket I used on a trip in February-March of 1972 trip (Amtrak was still using the former railroad tariffs). Two of the coupons provided me a free Los Angeles-San Diego and back sidetrip. I did not get to San Francisco on the this trip, but went directly Los Angeles-Portland (one coupon) to Seattle.
