Raising MAS equipment speeds on NEC
Posted by blue streak 1 on Friday, October 30, 2015 1:49 PM

A combined test series near Princeton Junction to qualify NJT ALP-45DPs, Amtrak Horizon cars, Viewliner-1 cars and compatibility with V-2 baggage.  Quite a series of test runs.  Runs were at 130 MPH.

This test will have several possibilities all which mayl not happen.

1.  Allows for DPs to run NJT commuter expresses at 125 MPH. Their commuter cars may not be qualified yet ?

2.  Once V-2 diners are assigned to south LD trains then their MAS will be 125 MPH.

3.  Horizon cars can be used as well mixed with Amfleet, V-1s , & V-2s.

4.  A DP could be used on Pennsylvanian eliminating engine change at PHL  Not likely

5.  Thanksgiving extras using NJT equiment can run at 125

6.  Amtrak might buy some DPs to run regionals to Richmond or other locations.  Fuel tank capacity might be a problem ?

7.  Maybe use some Horizons on the thanksgiving trains mixed in with Amfleets so only one car away from operating restroom ?

8.  Finally fluidity of the NEC will improve greatly.  This may really put pressure on MARC since they are not buying new electric motors but SEPTA is.
