The answer is...Amtrak itself doesn't know.
Like you, RailSpike, I got the news from Chase in yesterday's mail. I called AGR, waited on hold for 12 minutes (!), then got a clerk who said AGR has no idea yet about which bank will next have the honor of hosting my Amtrak rewards card. Asked when he would know, the clerk replied "by the end of the month."
I take that to mean that for at least through October I'll be spending money without getting any Amtrak points, although I will be earning points on a new card that I don't want and will likely never get any reward from.
It's disappointing that with all of those highly paid managers Amtrak has that no one has this situation thought through and planned-for well in advance. Do the words "seamless transition" mean anything to Amtrak? (That's a rhetorical question, guys.)
The letter I received today from CHASE stated that points already earned for Amtrak travel will be "transfered to your rewards account held at Amtrak".
Indeed. It says, in effect, that purchases made through Sept. 30, 2015 will count and the points will to to Amtrak. So, I guess I'll be charging everything for the next couple of weeks!
I just received an email Sunday that says my new card from Bank of America is on its way. So I guess it is all back to normal again. Until I want to redeem points under the new program.
I got a letter from Bank of America that they will be taking over the Amtrak Guest Rewards. I called and they took down info from me and the card has been approved and will be on its' way. I was concerned also when I heard from Chase. I have a bunch of points and hope them redeem them soon on City of New Orleans to visit a friend. I hadn't gotten around to calling Amtrak yet when I got the letter from Bank of America.
