Presumably these are for the High speed 110-125 mph lines.

But apparently there is no coverage of what Dave Ward said, other than a couple of Q&A at the end. It might be interesting to see if Siemens has a transcript available somewhere, as a discussion of the detail improvements on this locomotive month-to-month would be highly interesting -- as would any identifiable improvements to the design that might have arisen out of the Caterpillar lawsuit over actual ability to reach 125 mph in service.
Amtraks comments in the document are rather interesting. They plan to again try for a permanent source of funding and a higher subsidy during the upcomming tax code reform negotiations. So as suspected earlier, the budget appropriation was not their last chance and Amtrak does not view it that way either. It will be interesting what they are able to establish if anything with tax code reform.
Does spec call for backward looking video cameras and monitors so the engineer can see the side of the train that is not on his side of the cab? These were added to Metra's locos after the violnist lost her legs because the engineer could not see her caught in the doorway since she was on the left side of the train and the engineer was on the right side.

Didn't see that BUT one thing that I found interesting was the Bi-Level car spec has listed an alternative way other than stairs to get to the second level for mobility impaired people. How are they going to do that within space limitations? Elevator?
Actually, the Amtrak Charger order predates the AAF order by a couple of months, and may be a factor in AAF selecting the design. The numbers are interesting as I believe that only 32 have been ordered for corridor services, with options for more.

Well I don't want to get folks hopes up but there are possible hints at a expansion order from Wisconsin to replace the Hiawatha Trainsets as well as allow another Chicago to St. Paul Frequency. Only hints and heresay at this point because Wisconsin is still discussing the Chicago to St. Paul additional frequency with Amtrak and what it would cost to implement with current equipment or if they need new equipment.......how much that would cost.
If you ask me they need to work on the paint schemes of these locomotives they look drab and ugly.
