MNRR announce bridge is now closed but not in service. The link states repairs are ongoing. No service bulletin has yet to be announced about any delays. So what happens when the Bascule bridge is opened again ? This may be the next Walk type problem or slight chance woorse. With over 9 bridges WASH - BOS all possibly a small chance of failing where will the small chances add up to have a major service interruption ?

That's Near Miss Dick for ya! (as the guy at ten90 Systems calls him.) I'm looking forward to learn what the exact causes of this problem were, and then see just how 'dire' this is for the 'crumbling' infrastructure concerned.
Not that I don't agree there is plenty of crumbling and plenty of items for excitement in maintaining the NEC! Or, come to think of it, that there are plenty of more deflicted places along the Corridor -- the North River tunnels, Portal Bridge, and the Baltimore thing being three -- far more important than the Devon Movable Bridge.
If you don't maintain anything with moving parts, it's likely to stop moving.

When I saw the "bridge failure" headline, I thought a train had gone into the drink. Glad to see it was only a mechanical failure.
Fortunately it is only one 2 track span of 2 spans. This is going to delay MNRR and Amtrak. Supposed to be fixed Thursday morning. we'll see.

The bulletin states this was a test opening July 1st 0100. Probably a good idea as if both spans had opened and the failure was endemic to both ---- ? Failure states problem is in bridge supports and not bridge itself.
