daveklepper Jordan is a safe country to visit. They even have Israeli tourists. The Jordanian Railways will allow you to charter a steam train, and they have some very beautiful locomotives. British railfans visit Jordan frequently. I recommend the place. It and Morrocco are probably the most pro-USA`countries in the Arab world.

Too many migrant Palestianians with Jordanian Citizenship that flip between Gaza, Lebanon on the radical region tour. I heard Jordan was kind of an oasis but I think they need to calm things down a bit more with the neighbors.
CMStPnPSo I think I will wait for schlimm to fly there first and come back with a complete trip report and pictures (heh-heh).
Not likely to go there. I would post pictures I have taken in Europe and the UK, but I haven't a clue how.

I've always wanted to see the Hedjaz Railway that T.E. Lawrence attacked and the rolling stock is still sitting there almost 100 years later. But living in the frozen North as I do, I wouldn't survive the heat or having my head cut off.
As I said in another thread in the middle of some banter about how the world was falling apart. The Middle East is actually on the list for some decent new railroad routes as well as new equipment in the form of passenger trains and transit. Here is an small picture from the next issue of trains.

My problem with visiting there is #1 the long plane ride and #2 the security situation. So I think I will wait for schlimm to fly there first and come back with a complete trip report and pictures (heh-heh).
