I'm sorry; you are right. I was looking at the location of the old Union Station, which was on the through line to the north and east. The train has to back up to CPF196, and then go north on the former Maine Central's line into eastern and northern Maine. As well as I can tell, the mileposts on this line read from Vanceboro
The intermodal station is on what was the MeC's line to New Hampshire and to Quebec.

Deggesty JC UPTON Deggesty From what I can tell of the maps of Portland that I have, Portland is a through station for the Downeasters that go on to Brunswick. That is what I thought, too. But when I try to continue to the intermediate stations, I can't find a connection.... How are you leaving the station--going north, on the former MEC, or you trying to go east in Portland and then north on the former Grand Trunk--which is no longer connected to the former B&M?

Arriving from the south, it looks like a northbound would either have to continue to the north west, and never get to Brunswick, or back up for about 3/4 mile & then continue north to pass between Cumberland & Yarmouth, thence to Freeport, etc.
I don't know the names of the various rail line owners, I just see the Amtrak staions on GoogleEarth.

JC UPTON How does the Downeaster enter / exit the "Portland Transportation Center"? Is a reversing move involved?

I should have said:
With the Downeaster now continuing north past Portland to Brunswick, how does the Downeaster enter / exit the "Portland Transportation Center"? Is a reversing move involved?
