California HSR projections called into question

Think it was brought up in the Dallas to Houston thread how unreliable projections are for businesses in general and especially new businesses, and this is further proof of that......even if they are audited and reviewed by another company....

Just checking.  Hannover to Wuerzburg on an ICE train (using the criterion in the article) two weeks out one can get a ticket online for 31.52 cents per mile. If I looked really hard, I could go as cheaply as 19.72 cents per mile. The article said 46 cents, about a 33% error.  So I wonder how much else is inaccurate?

There is another thread on this story in General Discussion.  I commented on it there.  We might ask a mod to combine these two into one thread; I think it would be better here in the Passenger section.
