The rise and fall of transportation forms can only be properly viewed in the context of the competing forms of transportation.

I agree that it would be very instructive to correlate this with the growth of Interstate Highways. But that really means the timeline should start a long time before 1962. It should include the highways built under the W.P.A. in the 1930's, the Pennsylvania Turnpike (the first "super highway" in this country), etc. Inclusion of airline competition would be interesting and possibly instructive too.
