Sometimes facts as compared to unofficial statements can be enlighting. The Amtrak FY 16 plan has a table of diesel road locomotives. at the end of each FY.
Both FY 2013 & 2014 end of year shows total road diesels of 289 , 45 in maintenance & 244 available for service.
Both FY 2015 & 2016 planned end of year shows 265 total, 42 in maintenance, and 223 available.
So how can Amtrak possibly operate now at the same reliability that it had in 2012 & 2014 ?
A comparsion of the electric motors show exactly the same number with the transition to ACS-64s. Can we not assume they will be more reliable ?
