I have always been curious as to why the Downeaster does not have Superliners.

Maintenance for the Downeaster sets is done at the Boston coach yard near South Station. Getting there requires getting through low-clearance tunnels with 25KV overhead wire.
The restricting tunnel is at Back-Bay Station extending almost a mile toward South Station.
No Superliners run into Boston. Commonality of equipment for flexibility in assignment is also important.
Plus where would the superliners come from?
I believe the Amfleets were from the tiger rebuild program?
