If that was the train that departed Chicago on the 12th, it had an engine problem before it even reached Glenview, and so it was down roughly 5 hours down everywhere after that.
It was classy of Amtrak to have their PR guy meet the first No. 8 and talk to people. Whitefish is a good friend to Amtrak and was especially hurt last year by the temporary nighttime arrivals and departures and erratic running.
I wonder how the Izaak Walton Inn is doing. It's one of our favourite spots, but we have given up on the EB and have flown to Kalispel lately.
Per a NewsWire story, Amtrak will resume the Empire Builder's old schedule and Fargo-Minot routing Jan. 12.
This is good news only if these can be maintained into a new construction season, when more capacity expansion by BNSF in North Dakota and Montana is contemplated. Warm-month daylight running thru the Montana mountains (Glacier) was a major casualty of 2014.
I, for one, will book a trip to Whitefish only when I'm assured the schedule at least allows the possibility of enjoying that dramatic mountain passage.
