The FRA requires an annual retest of an ACELA train set using an instrumented wheelset to ensure wheel/rail forces are not excessive due to track or mechanical deterioration. Test is conducted over the entire length on the NEC.
Reported a repeat of Acela High speed test on NEC. Check the amount of CAT oscillations denoted by sparking above the PANs. Once constant tension installed that sparking should almost disappear. Suspec that tests occur this time of year when PRR type CAT the most stable due to mild temperatures and no wild swings. Unconfirmed reports also say tests were done on the New Haven BOS high speed section in immediate past ?
