We are lucky to have Amtrak. Had it not been formed, there would probably not be any long distance passenger trains now. Just like our government, Amtrak doesn't meet all of our needs. But that said, for the past 22 years, my wife and I have rode Amtrak at least once each year and in some years 3 or 4 times. It is easy to gauge the ups and downs of the services or lack there of. The one constant, the employees, the dinning car and sleeping car attendants remain outstanding, despite their worsening conditions. Dining car staff have been cut several times from 5 or 6 staffers down to 3 on the Crescent. That folks, this is no way to operate the dining car and keep the customers pleased with the service and staff proud of their service. Yet they soldier on, doing everything they can to please their customers.
As per removing the potties from the economy rooms, I totally applaud that concept. Those tiny potties in the room are not manageable for the large passenger. Since my wife's surgery, I am joyful we have had to get a handicapp room when we travel on the Eastern trains. Modesty becomes a problem, even with a husband and wife, "going potty" in such proximity.
