What about a 200mph ship? Oh and to match the forum, what about a 200 mph railroad ferry. This way you could take the train from Los Angeles to Berlin. LOL.

Thx IGN

Jay Leno' show was subject to a writers' strike, he told us that all the jokes they come up with all start with "a priest, a rabbi, and a minister", so instead of relying on his writers, Jay brought out an actual priest, rabbi, and minister from the Los Anglese area to each tell a joke before the studio and TV audience.

The minister, in his humorous story, related that while working late in his office on his sermon, he heard a voice on high telling him, "To my hard-working servant, I shall grant anything that you ask!"

In prayer, the minister replied, "Lord, there is one thing that I would ask of you.  My wife and two daughters are always asking me why we cannot go to Hawaii on vacation, and I tell them that airfare to Hawaii is too costly for what our congregation can pay their minister in salary.  Lord, could you grant that there be a road going to Hawaii?"

The reply came, "A road to Hawaii?  You know from your theology studies that I am all powerful and there are no limits to what I can make to happen,  but you also know from seminary that even My actions are subject to moral consequences..  The resources to build that road will have to come from somewhere else . . . tell me if there is anything else I may grant you."

The minister replied again, "I beg forgiveness for your servant being selfish and asking for this road.  There is one other thing that you could grant me.  Every time I prepare for Sunday services, my wife and my two daughters are bickering and arguing and criticizing me how I do everything wrong, but then we get to church and I get up to the pulpit to lead Services, and they are all seated behind me on the dais, dressed in their Sunday finest and all sweetness and smiles on their faces.  Lord, if you could provide anything to your humble servant, grant me the wisdom and discernment to know what women want."

There is then the longest pause and the voice in the quiet comes back, "OK then, for that road of yours, did you want two lanes or four!"

If GM "killed the electric car", what am I doing standing next to an EV-1, a half a block from the WSOR tracks?

Other news reports have suggested that the European Air Traffic Control authorities have a variety of contingency plans to handle any potential disruptions caused by ash clouds.  They seem to have learned from the last event in 2010.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

The possibility of another volcano disrupting trans-Atlantic airplane travel seems to me to be yet another reason to build the much-needed trans-Atlantic railway tunnel.  Many times in the past I have often wished I didn't have to fly to cross the ocean, and just think of how many construction jobs would be created!  The other tunnel I wish were already in operation is the San Francisco - Honolulu railway tunnel.

Granted, windows wouldn't be needed on the passenger cars and there would be no mid-route smoking stops, nor any other stops.  Indeed, visits to the dining car would be the sole entertainment en route.  No need for dome cars, either.  It is an open question if there would be Wi-Fi availability.  With all welded rail we should all be able to stretch out and sleep in real comfort, not in an airplane's upright seats, but in our rooms.

At 200mph the NYC - London route should take about 16 hours.  Any investors care to step forward?

(And no, I'm not serious)

Iceland volcano again ?

Report say another volcano seems unlikely to have a major eruption.  Uncertainty gives a slight chance of a major eruption with more ash than last time.  Note there are ~ 6  active volcanos in Iceland.

What planning has  been made to handle the extra passengers on European RRs if there is another ban on airplane travel ?
