Interesting article. I read somewhere that the Milwaukee track that skirted Wirth Park was the Westbound main because it had a lesser grade than the other track. I did not know the second track was put in much later to double track the Milwaukee Road into Milwaukee. The track on the bottom of the map where it shows the divergence has a much steeper grade into Elm Grove though and was used for Eastbound trains primarily. Under CP it is now bi-directional with reverse CTC. Every once in a while Milwaukee ran it that way when the other track was under maintenence but did not have reverse CTC on it.
Interesting article and includes the very last rail passenger ticket of the Milwaukee Road intercity operations outside of Chicago way back from 1972.
