Right...the pictures look basically west and north with the Hudson River being N-S. The MNRR train made it all around the bend in the derailing process and did not block the Amtrak West Side line thus has been able to resume service to and from NYP to Albany and the west. Traffic of course was suspended until the rescue work was done and all other clearances were obtained.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
Looks like a track branching off of the three track line, just North of the curve where the derailment took place. Crosses ?Harlem River?
Is this the line Amtrak uses to access Penn Station? News reports I have heard say no Amtrak service (trains) are affected by the line closure due to the derailment.
Anyone have any further information?? -- Thanks!
