Sounds good, Mel. Last week, I rode from Washington to New Orleans, and we did well until after Birmingham. We were a little over an hour late arriving in New Orleans--and headed in, which certainly saved time (the second time that a train I rode into New Orleans headed in, also because of delays caused by heavy rains).
I'm looking forward to further reports on your trip.

Part One:
August 8, 2013: # 98-The Silver Meteor arrives in Jacksonville, FL 1 hour late at 5:48 P.M. Amtrak's Florida on time results have been dismal for months due to Sun Rail construction in the Winter Park area. Had the salmon entree in the diner. It was quite good. The ride was uneventful. We made up some of the lost time during the night. Twnty minutes late into Washington, D.C. the next morning and 20 minutes late at Philadelphia where I detrained. The ride through the Carolinas didn't seem as rough as some of my earlier trips had been. Settled into the Acela Lounge at 30th Street Station. LOTS of people using the trains that day.
August 9, 2013: # 19-The Crescent left Philadelphia 2 minutes down. Arrived and left Atlanta, GA the next morning on time. Had a gradual loss of time from Meridian, MS south. Smooth ride. I have finally gotten used to the Viewliner Sleepers-either that or I was tired enoght to sleep. We arrived in New Orleans, LA 46 minutes late. The back up move consumed 17 minutes. The Pullman Company cars in IC livery were on the next track over along with a full length dome in Empire Builder colors and Great Northern lettering. Spent Saturday night, August 10th, and Sunday morning, August 11th at a nice hotel near the French Quarter. My wife, Madge, and I will be repeating this trip after Christmas. (More to come)
Mel Hazen; Jax, FL Ride Amtrak. It's the only way to fly!!!
