Parking at New Haven is a lot less Amtrak than it is MNRR and CONNDOT. Hourly service to Grand Central, more during peak hours, plus the Shore Line intrastate services probably account for 90 or more percent of the passenger traffic here. So is it an Amtrak problem or one on the shoulders of the other agencies using the station or of the municipality itself?

Parking at New Haven Ct's Union Station is inadequate for today's increasing ridership numbers. This Station is a busy hub for not only Amtrak Trains but Metro North and Shoreline East Service as well as Local and Long Distance Buss Service. At the present time overflow parking, at prime times, is located several city blocks from the Terminal in an area just recently designated to be built into Residential and Commercial space. There are presently no plans on the books to accomodate for these soon to be lost parking spaces. The existing Parking Garage at Union Station needs to be doubled in size in order to be able to handle the present and future needs of Connecticut Regional Travelers.
