Phil Silvers is a New Yorker. Anywhere he traveled he would ride the New York Central. If he rode a train in Japan it would be the New York Central.
I believe that the show was produced in New York City, so it would make sense that they would (out of expediency) use either NYC or PRR equipment nearby -- "who's going to notice anyway?".
On a similar note, I've seen a lot of Southern Pacific equipment show up in old movies, supposedly on various East Coast and Midwest routes -- again probably because SP was more accessible to Hollywood.

I saw an old "Phil Silvers" show the other day. He traveled on the New York Central from Fort Reilly, Kansas to Tulsa, Oklahoma!
Quite a feat!!!
