You are right, Bonas. Amtrak leaves many places unserved. Sometimes (and the west side of the Hudson River is a good example) Buses are the best transportation we have to these places. But, as Joe Boardman points out, even bus companies are pulling back and serving fewer places.
The discount buses will never serve these cities because too few people travel there. But fortunately the old standbys, Greyhound and Trailways, still go to some of them.
John
Amen to that. Bus seats are not comfortable, how easy is it to get up and walk around, and where would you walk to? The best you can do on a bus is the bathroom. I've ridden many buses and they are not my favorite transportation, maybe cheaper, but not comfy.
CSSHEGEWISCH Bonas NY Trailways takes the West Side of the Hudson serving Kingston and West Point..locations that otherwise would be served by the West Shore Railroad or Riverline of CSX The West Shore has not seen passenger service since prior to 1960.

Good for the bus.
I'd rather not travel than ride a bus.
I'll gladly pay the $40 more for a more comfortable trip.
Overmodup to 30% off THAT if you buy multiple-trip books.
In my younger days I used to hitchhike. That is even cheaper and the cheapest way to travel I know of except for one other way that cannot be spoken of here.
And
Bonas http://www.trailwaysny.com/html/english/fares_pdf/albnyc.pdf beats 60.00 fare on Amtrak.....catch is you gotta book online

I found the $39 to Buffalo even more surprising. That's only four bucks more than Kingston!

With advance purchase you can get an Amtrak ticket between New York and Albany for $41. I don't know if you have to book on line but it is fairly easy to.
But it is still not as cheap as Trailways. Long distance buses have always been cheaper than trains.
