My grandmother (born in 1864) looked under her bed at night to see if any scoundrel were hiding there. I once asked my mother, "What would she do if she found someone there?" My mother replied, "Order him to come out."

Uh, Bonas, I clicked on that website you posted.  Is this a 'site for people who look under the bed at night to make sure Richard Nixon/ Ronald Reagan/  George W. Bush  aren't hiding under there?

I mean, I don't check under the bed to see if Josef Stalin/ Mao Zedong/ Fidel Castro are hiding there.

PS:  I don't check the bedroom closet for Adolf Hitler either.

After clicking on your link, Bonas, all I can think of to say is that this is America with the internet.  Maybe we'll meet on an Amtrak train some day.

At least on Amtrak when you finally get off the train, its not at a sausage factory Stick out tongue

Look at this picture:  http://www.infomarketingblog.com/images/099.pdf

The poor family, John Q. Traveler with his wife and kids, is being treated shabbily.  But that hog ain't plannin' to get off at no sausage factory.

Wayne,

His name is Dan Biondie.  He is reported to be a heckler passing himself off as a reporter at a news conference by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.  I don't want to repeat the question he is reported to have asked because of the enormity of the outrage.  Here is a link for you to see for yourself:

(I'm using courier type because the default type does not make the i's in his name clear.  They look like l's.)

Chicago has no direct Amtrak to subway service. New Orleans has streetcars but there is no link to either the bus or the train station

The only think I know about Chicago is that today all the trains come to the same station unlike the bad old days when they made you change stations.  Robert Young got it right.  A pig can cross the country without changing trains.  But you can't.

New Orleans runs buses on most of its transit routes.  There is a bus that goes right by Union Station.  And for long distance buses the train station is the bus station.

2)  What a disgusting thing to say at a time like this!  (Don Biondie, not Bonas.)

Train Station to Greyhound Station and vice versa. I have risked leaving bags outside of small buisneses in order to get coffee or use the bathroom. Most small buinseses frown on bringing large bags inside there buisneses. Now It will be every time I walk thru a downtown it will be a Colonel Klink "Your Papers Please" searching my bags for medical marjiwanna while legal in the state is still illeagal by ther feds or planting porn or drugs while they are seaching my bags

Specific to Boston, Boston South Station is several blocks east of the incident and unaffected by any closures, on the MBTA, Copley Sq station, closest to the blast has been closed till further notice, but the other Green Line stations are open and all lines are running.

   Have fun with your trains

I don't guess Louisiana has many subways you can ride, Jeffery.  I've heard of walking to New Orleans but I never heard of anyone who walked from the river to the lake.  But I was really talking about New York.  I've ridden on the no. 7 train as well as many other trains for years without any incident.  I don't suggest waiting on a deserted platform late at night but during the day I wouldn't hesitate.

Yeah, I don't travel much anymore. Back when I did do a lot of business travel I had to wait in customs lines. It was an inconvenience but it went with the territory. Complaining about it never changed anything. It just made life a little more difficult for those complaining as the customs agents showed more of an interest in them.

It's a pretty sad commentary on the tragedy that claimed three lives and 170+ wounded and maimed, when a contributor, who previously graced us with his story about his drunken and illegal ride in a boxcar, is only concerned about possibly being personally inconvenienced.

But you might have taken the subway.

That's a good solution IF the city you're in has a subway you can ride. In the part of the country I'm in most all subways serve sandwiches. Bus service or other public transportation is virtually non-existent here. You call a cab or walk or hope somebody can give you a ride. That's if you don't get picked clean first.

How is the Boston Bombing going to affect my ability to travel?
Posted by Bonas on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 7:16 PM

My first impression is that I use Amtrak a lot  which puts me in the middle of Downtowns and if there is something going on downtown I can expect a lot of delays by being forced to open and reopen my backpacks and luggage as I tranfers between modes of public transport...anyone else?...There goes my privacy as I always expected more privacy when I traveled by train or foot....and Besides in big citys there is always some BS festival that I have to crawl thru to get where I am going....Like the Gay Puerto Rican Pride Parade that I had to go thru in New York City....I could not get around them so i joined themKissesCool in the March.
