Having stayed at both places my wife and I much prefer the Izaak Walton Inn.  You are right on the main, next to a yard for the helpers and a wonderful group of fellow rail fans.  It is small and has a family feeling with a great on site restaurant.  I found it just flat out fun to sit on the lawn and watch the trains go by.   While there take a side trip to the Lodge, it's worth seeing but the rooms were primitive compared to the Inn.

No question about it.  Glacier Park Lodge....hands down.  Here's why:

1.  built as a hotel...not to serve train crews.  The Lodge interior is breathtaking & beautiful.  Setting is perfect, including a walking distance village with a few interesting stores.  Trail ride stables across road from hotel.

2.  much more of interest to wife than at Izaak Walton, which is of primary interest to men.

3.  easy to get anywhere, inc. by public transportation than the IW Inn.

Go the the Lodge for a better time and to make yr wife happy.  Train-viewing opportunities are just as good.

Make your reservation early.

Staying in Glacier

My wife and I are planning an Amtrak trip to Glacier Nat'l Park. Can anyone offer some insight on staying at Glacier Lodge vs. Izzak Walton IN?  Are there other places you'd recommend?

We're more interested in simple quiet and beauty as opposed the 5-star resort experience.
